MnDOT requests letters of interest for preliminary and design for roundabout at the intersection of US Hwy 63 and MN 247/Olmsted County State Aid Highway (CSAH) 12 in rural Olmsted County 6.5 miles northeast of the City of Rochester. US Hwy 63 is a north-south route that connects Rochester to Zumbro Falls and Lake City/US Hwy 61 along the Mississippi River. This intersection provides the most direct route between Rochester and Plainview and is also an alternative route to reach US Hwy 52 eight miles west of the intersection. US Hwy 63 is an Oversized – Overweight (OSOW) route. This intersection has a sustained history of crashes and has previously been identified as a priority rural intersection in the Olmsted County Road Safety Plan. MnDOT District 6 also conducted a safety review of this intersection in 2022, concluding that this location has a high potential for more crashes due to increased volumes and risky driving behavior. This contract is necessary to provide technical expertise in roundabout design that are needed to identify the current and future operational deficiencies at the intersection, provide improvement alternatives recommendation, and prepare and submit the design of the preferred alternative. Project Goal The goal of this project is to provide 100 percent complete construction plan for the project.
