As of November 21, 2023, some funding has been approved. Further details regarding design and construction have not been identified. A firm timeline for construction has not been established. A detailed scope has not yet been released. The first of the two planned rail projects is an expansion of the Norfolk Southern/Wheeling & Lake Erie shared yard and is designed to expand capacity from 184 car spots to 351. An interplant loop track will also be installed to improve JSW’s internal logistics. The second rail project is the expansion of JSW’s rail infrastructure for scrap and iron storage and handling yard on the south side of JSW’s Mingo Junction property. The project will install approximately 3,360 linear feet of track and four rail switches to maintain the scrap processing volumes required to support 125,000 tons of slab production monthly. The Ohio Rail Development Commission assists Ohio communities, companies, and railroads in creating and retaining jobs by preserving rail service to existing shippers and providing rail service to new customers. The Rail Commission also funds projects to improve railroad-highway grade crossings to increase safety for the traveling public. Rail lines in Ohio are private property. Trespassing is both extremely dangerous and strictly prohibited.
