Estimated Construction Cost $3,740,000 Specified Services(all chosen) Architect PROJECT OVERVIEW Barnstable County is soliciting proposals from qualified design firms that are highly experienced in the restoration of historic structures, to provide architectural, engineering and related services for the alterations and restoration of the Barnstable Superior Courthouse. Barnstable County Superior Courthouse was built in 1831 and is an important historic courthouse in a prominent location in Barnstable Village. The building is the central location for Barnstable County administration offices with the majority of the space leased to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Court System. Regular coordination with Trial Court officials will be required throughout all project phases. The two-story structure underwent five renovations between 1879 and 1971. The building is historically significant due to its integrity of location, design, setting, materials, and workmanship. It is an excellent example of the Greek Revival style popular at the time and is one of the earliest examples of the style on Cape Cod. It has been the seat of county government and justice since 1831 and played an important role in the history of Cape Cod. It was individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 12, 1975, and is a contributing historic structure in the Old King’s Highway Regional Historic District.
