Introduction & Description The scope is to undertake full Special Inspections & Materials Testing Services for the Gianforte Hall MSU-Bozeman, MT. Gianforte Hall will be an approximately 58,000 GSF academic building on the Montana State University campus in Bozeman, Montana. The new building will be located between Grant Street and Kagy Ave along 7th Ave, just south of Norm Asbjornson Hall. The Gianforte School of Computing as well as programs for Music Technology and Film and Photography will move to the new structure. The project is currently in the Construction Documents phase and is scheduled to begin construction in spring/summer of 2024. The design also involves a mass timber structural system. Project Location and Site The Gianforte Hall project site is located in a developed area of the Montana State University (MSU) Campus. The project site is currently a grass field bounded by the Norm Asbjornson Hall (NAH) to the north, the parking garage to the west, 7th Avenue to the east, and a parking lot to the south. The site has existing water and sewer mains on the north and west sides. geothermal wells installed as part of NAH are also present on the north and west sides of the project site. In anticipation of multiple projects in the area around Gianforte Hall, a utility tunnel has been extended from the Grant Street and 7th Avenue intersection, south along 7th Avenue to provide utility service. It will be the Gianforte Hall project's responsibility to connect to the tunnel node and extend the tunnel to the basement of Gianforte Hall, at the Owner's discretion. The Materials Testing Services will generally provide Special Inspections required by the International Building Code and Materials Testing including but not limited to: o Testing of soil compaction, structural, below site civil hardscape, utility trenches. o Testing of cast in place concrete strength testing (shall include, air, slump, unit weight and temp.) for structural concrete and site civil hardscape. o Testing and inspection of stormwater, water, and sewer mains and services. o Testing of flexible pavement. o Testing of steel construction. o Testing of steel construction for seismic resistance. o Testing of masonry construction. o Inspection and verification of soils (foundation, foundation backfill, site civil hardscape, and utility trench backfill). o Verification of rammed aggregate piers are certified by the installer. o Inspection structural concrete construction (reinforcing, anchorages, placement, etc.). o Inspection of mass timber connections. o Inspection of structural steel construction (bolting, welding, erection, etc.). o Inspection of structural steel elements of composite construction. o Inspection of structural steel construction for seismic resistance. o Inspection of steel construction other than structural steel (cold formed metal deck). o Inspection of masonry construction. o Intumescent and/or SFRM fire proofing.
