Renovation of a stadium in Toronto, Ontario. Completed plans call for the renovation of a stadium.
Renovations/infrastructure improvements to BMO Field to elevate fan experience for World Cup while hosting 6 games at the upcoming tournament. Renovations include expanded capacity and 4 new LED scoreboards, enhanced audio systems, and expanded Wi-Fi throughout the stadium. There will also be hospitality changes, including a ticketed rooftop patio with a 1,000-person capacity will be added for extra viewing. Capacity is being temporarily increased to 45,000 for the tournament with 10,000 temporary seats added on the north grandstand and 7,000 temporary seats added on the south grandstand to meet FIFA World Cup requirements. Self-serve technology powered by artificial intelligence to streamline concession stands and enhancements to the field, player spaces and locker rooms will also be a part of the renovations. TIMELINE: Phase construction began December 2024. Phase 1: December 2024 through to August 2025. Phase 2: December 2025 to March 2026. All enhancements must be completed in time for the FIFA World Cup 2026 - June 2026 kick-off. *City of Toronto investment - 123 million. *Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) investment - 23 million (for both temporary and permanent enhancements). *Federal government investment - 100 million.
