Location: Lowell Reconstruction & Related Work on VFW Highway District: 4 Project Type: Highway - Construction MADOT: Reconstruction & Related Work On VFW Highway Proposal no- 605966-129047 SCOPE OF WORK All work under this Contract shall be done in conformance with the 2024 Standard Specifications for Highways and Bridges, the Supplemental Specifications contained in this book, the 2017 Construction Standard Details, the Traffic Management Plans and Detail Drawings, MassDOT Work Zone Safety Temporary Traffic Control, the 1990 Standard Drawings for Signs and Supports; the 2015 Overhead Signal Structure and Foundation Standard Drawings, the 2009 Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) with Revisions 1, 2, and 3 and the November 2022 Massachusetts Amendments to the MUTCD; the 1968 Standard Drawings for Traffic Signals and Highway Lighting; The American Standard for Nursery Stock; the Plans and these Special Provisions.The work shall consist of full-width resurfacing (fine milling & hot mix asphalt (HMA) overlay) along VFW Highway in Lowell, MA. The project begins at the limit of SHLO just west of the Varnum Ave intersection and endsjust prior to the Bridge St. intersection (Start of project 604964). Gaps in that area include the area excluded for the Beaver Brook project (602932), University Ave. bridge project (601845) and the area excluded for project #607752 which will take place at the intersections of Mammoth Rd. and Aiken St. Additionally, from just west of Varnum Avenue to just west of Mammoth Road, the existing eastbound sidewalk will be replaced with a 10-foot HMA Shared Use Path separated from VFW Highway by guardrail. This work will require realignment and reconstruction of the existing medians to accommodate the revised eastbound curb line.
