Site work and paving for a civil project in West Des Moines, Iowa. Design plans call for site work for a bridge / tunnel; for paving for a bridge / tunnel; and water / sewer project.
Construction of a new storm sewer (culvert) extending south of the 8th Street & Railroad Avenue intersection to Lincoln Street. The existing structure was constructed circa 1920 and consists of gravity retaining walls with a lid and no floor. The lid appears to consist of sections of railroad rail laid transversely across the walls infilled with grout. A new culvert may be need because of a potential private development on a site between Railroad Avenue and Lincoln Street east of South 9th Street. The culvert bisects the parcel, and preliminary site plans propose construction of structures adjacent to storm sewer easements as well as site drainage connections to the existing culvert. This project is included in the city's fy 2024-2029 Capital Improvement Program. As of October 10, 2024, further details regarding construction and completion timelines have not been released. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly.
