Site work and paving for a mixed-use development in Dekalb, Illinois. Completed plans call for site work for a road / highway; for paving for a road / highway; sidewalk / parking lot; and sidewalk / parking lot.
As of October 30, 2025, project is complete. The project is converting a 4-leg signalized intersection to a 3-leg roundabout and other appurtenances necessary for roadway construction. The City of DeKalb is seeking Phase III construction engineering services for support during construction. Project Components - The intersection of Lucinda Ave and Normal Rd are to be completely reconstructed. The project shall consist of, but not limited to, the following aspects: existing pavement and curb removal, PCC roadway construction, approach leg pavement removal and replacement, pedestrian upgrades, soil erosion and sediment control implementations, minor public utility improvements, pavement marking, and signage. Timeline - The project was let in June 2024 with a start of construction anticipated in Spring of 2025 and must be completed by resumption of university activities that August. Expected Problems - The following are issues that could be concern during the construction: o Aggressive timeline requiring foresight and proactive approach to potential delays o Campus pedestrian trips and management of vehicle detours o Nearby resident and University faculty and student's satisfaction is an important factor for the City. Project Budget - The estimated construction budget of the project approximately 2 million.
