The Multidisciplinary Life Sciences Building ("MDLS") as currently proposed is anticipated to provide Health Sciences and Biological Sciences wet research laboratories, Biology teaching laboratories, vivarium, shared collaborative spaces, conference rooms, office space to support research and departments' administrative needs. The project may also consider the including of specialized laboratories. The project includes infrastructure improvements including utilities to serve the project, street realignments, and other public realm enhancements. Refinements to the space program may be developed with the Executive Architect during the remaining design phase(s). The new construction is anticipated to be approximately 108,000 assignable square feet (ASF) and 191,000 gross square feet (GSF) for MDLS with associated site and infrastructure improvements including a realigned access to the existing South Parking Structure. The project will include off-site work including the extension of the campus utility loop to the project site. This project will also provide integration into the surrounding public realm (pedestrian paths, streets, bike lanes, etc.), building services areas and site landscaping. The successful Bidder will be required to have a current and active California Contractor's License for the scope of work to be performed at the time of submission of the Bid. In addition, the University and McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. are committed to promoting and increasing participation of small business enterprises (SBEs) and disabled veteran business enterprises (DVBEs) relating to all goods and services covered under the awarded agreement, subject to any and all applicable obligations under state and federal law, and University policies. The awarded contractor shall make best efforts to provide qualified SBEs and DVBEs with the maximum opportunity to participate. Potential bidders will be required to submit their small business outreach plan to the University as part of the prequalification process Every effort will be made to ensure that all persons have equal access to contracts and other business opportunities with the University within the limits imposed by law or University policy. Each Bidder may be required to show evidence of its equal employment opportunity policy. The successful Bidder and its subcontractors will be required to follow the nondiscrimination requirements set forth in the contract between the University and the CM/Contractor, and to pay prevailing wage at the location of work.
