As of November 11, 2025, this project is still in the conceptual phase and has been paused due to funding constraints. An engineer has not been selected. A firm timeline for construction has not been determined. *The closed solicitation has been included below for reference: Cedar Bluffs Public School has been prioritized by NEMA to build a Saferoom Storm Shelter and is now seeking "Statement of Qualifications" from professional engineering firms interested in assisting the school in the design and eventual construction of a new saferoom addition with restrooms , library, mezzanine, and independent power system. This will be a phased project over multiple years. Cedar Bluffs Public School is proposing to construct a multi-purpose tornado safe room to serve the school and community of Cedar Bluffs in times of an inclement weather event or school campus intruder. Currently there is a space in the middle of our campus that could be utilized to tie all our buildings together, and provide a safe haven for our students, staff and community. The projects' outcome will result in the construction of a tornado safe room, restrooms, common space and independent power supply that will serve the village and school of Cedar Bluffs with a proposed occupancy of 900 during high winds or tornados up to 250 mph. There are no known community storm safe rooms located within or near the village or school of Cedar Bluffs. Engineering firms are encouraged to submit their qualifications to assist the School in all needed services including project engineering and design, assisting with funding coordination, project permits, development of bid documents, oversight of the bidding process and construction contract administration, and construction observation through completion of the project.
