The City is the landowner of a 14.7-acre Municipal Tree Nursery that had previously been agricultural land producing corn and soybeans. The surrounding area is mainly comprised of agricultural land and some single-family residential homes. Large herds of deer roam the site frequently passing through or grazing on the property leaving distinct deer trails. Soon there will be over 500+ young trees planted on the property. A robust deer fence with the durability to sustain multiple decades is a humane and cost-effective solution to protecting the investment of young trees that will eventually be planted throughout the City. b. Site Preparation i. The City shall be responsible for brush removal of vegetation on either side of the final fence alignment per the direction from the CONTRACTOR. The City with recommendation from the CONTRACTOR will determine the necessary alignment of the fence and determine which plants and trees need to be removed. c. Deer Fence Construction i. The CONTRACTOR shall construct a fence (8) feet high to prevent deer, rabbits, and other potentially destructive critters from entering the nursery. There are approximately 3200 linear feet of fencing. The material selected for posts and fencing should be durable providing many years of protection with minimal repairs and maintenance. ii. The CONTRACTOR shall construct two gates along the southern property line. 1. The southwestern gate will be used infrequently and does not need designed for high traffic usage. 2. The southeastern gate is located at the nursery entrance and needs to accommodate large trucks with daily usage. The quotation should specify a manual gate that can be upgraded to automation. The City requests and alternate quotation amount for the cost to upgrade the gate to automation under this contract. Anticipated Award Date: 04/16/2025
