Increasing the capacity of the Sainte-Marguerite-3 (SM-3) generating station by at least 440 MW (or even 600 MW according to some estimates), reaching a total capacity of over 1,300 MW by 2031. The scope of work includes the installation of a third turbine-generator unit in the existing underground infrastructure, without diverting the river or modifying the reservoir. Key details of the SM-3 project: - Objective: To increase flexibility and power output during peak winter periods to meet the requirements of the 2035 Action Plan. - Work: Installation of a third turbine, a 300-metre underground penstock, and a new transformer. TIMELINE: The project is preliminary. Preliminary studies are underway at the owner. According to the owner's preliminary scheduling development of the project is scheduled from 2028 to 2031. Notes: - The project to upgrade the equipment at the Sainte-Marguerite-3 power plant is subject to an environmental assessment. - Project value is not finalized and is estimated based on the average rate $/MW for such projects in Quebec.
