Site work and paving for a mixed-use development in Westborough, Massachusetts. Completed plans call for site work for a road / highway; for paving for a road / highway; sidewalk / parking lot; and sidewalk / parking lot.
A project to repave the front driveway at the Westborough District Courthouse, including edging and with some demolition of sidewalk and replacement of adjacent pedestrian walkway/sidewalk with asphalt to ensure compliance with ADA requirements. Location: Westborough District Courthouse - 186 Oak St., Westborough, MA 01581 5% Bid Bond Required. Required for DCAMM contracts over $150,000, Highway Division contracts over $50,000. Provide labor, material, any required permits and/or disposal fees to perform the work as outlined below: 1.1 Mill and remove 2" (cut depth) of material from the pre-existing top course of the contract area and replace with equal amount, or by an increased amount in settled/problem areas. Re-grading activity shall be performed for water control, with grades to be adjusted to allow for an adequate and uniform pitch in order to perform the intended drainage function. 1.2 Contractor shall ensure that all areas will have a solid base, and shall add material in an effort to 'build-up' the base where warranted in order to stabilize the base plus meet final grading requirements for proper drainage. There is a known pothole located on the left side of the driveway when entering from Oak Street. This will require a build-up of base in order to accommodate paving and allow proper drainage. 1.3 Contractor is responsible to restore linestriping/pavement markings, consistent with the existing condition. This will be true of all areas excepting where 3 concrete sidewalk sections (totaling 64' length) are to be removed and replaced with asphalt. A hatched striping pattern shall be striped to designate a handicap and pedestrian loading/offloading area. The asphalt shall also be graded to allow for drainage plus a gradual 1:20 sloped ramp to transition from driveway to the original concrete sidewalk which remains. (See photo with notes, Section 2) 1.4 Protect existing appurtenances (catchbasins, manhole covers, access covers) and maintain their function. Components to be protected from material infiltration, with frames and covers protected and adjusted as required to allow for reset flush with new top course. Covers & drains shall be kept free of asphalt or other construction materials, to ensure effective drainage and future access as intended. 1.5 Contractor to provide Site Supervision of their personnel during periods of active site work. 1.6 Work to comply with prevailing wage rates, see prevailing wages attachment. 1.7 Use of Subcontractors is subject to the approval of a Trial Court Facilities representative. Approval may require reviewing examples of prior work. 1.8 The following Provisions of Standard Specification Subsection 415 PAVEMENT MILLING used by MassDOT (Reference Document attached) shall apply to this project: 415.41 Milling Equipment Requirements 415.46 Protection of Inlets and Utilities 415.47 Vertical Faces 1.9 The following Provisions of Standard Specification Subsection 460 HOT MIX ASPHALT PAVEMENT used by MassDOT (Reference Document attached) shall apply to this project: 460.42 Weather Limitations 460.43 Preparation of Underlying Surface 460.48 Hot Mix Asphalt Compaction 1.10 Contractor to secure any necessary permits to accomplish the project. 1.11 Site Work to be performed during off-hours (possibly beginning Friday evening and through weekend/weekends or state holiday) so as not to impact the courthouse operations by causing an outage during regular business hours. 1.12 Addition of asphalt edging/curbing is included in the scope of work. Old edging to be removed and New asphalt curbing is to be provided, and should be of 'Cape Cod'style, formed with a 45 degree flat bevel. This edging should be provided along paved driveway. 1.13 Site to be protected at all times during hours of construction. Awarded contractor is responsible for any new damage that might occur during construction. 1.14 After each day's work, the site will be clean and free of any objects, vehicles, etc. that might make parking difficult for court users. 1.15 Final Acceptance shall be by a Trial Court Facilities representative. 1.16 For services in excess of $25,000, a 50% payment bond is required from the selected Contractor. 1.17 A bid deposit in the amount of 5% of the value of the total bid is required with the bid. 1.18 Selected Contractor will be required to provide proof of liability insurance, and to carry the 'Commonwealth of Massachusetts / Massachusetts Trial Court' as an Additional Insured.
