This is a service / maintenance or supply contract in Longwood, Florida. Contact the soliciting agency for additional information.

Total project Area will cover approximately 63 Acres. Non-native, invasive plant species affect the health, productivity, accessibility, use, management and quality of our natural habitats. Invasive plants decrease biodiversity and wildlife habitat. If left uncontrolled they can destroy ecosystems, limit wildlife habitat, agriculture, cultivated landscapes, hunting, fishing, boating, camping and swimming. At the present time, herbicide is one of the primary tools used to control invasive species. The methods of herbicide application include, but are not limited to, foliar spray, frill and girdle, cut stump, and basal bark. Seedlings of some species in mixed plant communities may be hand pulled in an effort to minimize the impact of herbicide on non-target vegetation. In some cases, mechanical methods may be necessary, if it is determined to be the most cost-efficient or effective way to treat the target vegetation. Due to the presence of desirable canopy vegetation in this project area, no soil-active herbicides will be used. The forested wetland/hardwood hammock habitat in the central portion of Spring Hammock Preserve has been part of an ongoing treatment plan to either drastically reduce or eliminate invasive species on this property. This project consists of an approximately 63-acre area (see map in 'Attachments' section) selected because of the high occurrence of invasives. A map of the project area, if necessary, will be provided by the Project Manager to the Contractor. Interactions with or questions from the public shall be directed to the Project Manager or onsite manager. All wildlife (including venomous snakes), plants, and cultural resources are protected and should not be collected or harmed. The Contractor will avoid direct impact to any gopher tortoise burrow that lies within the work area. The Goal of this project is to use herbicide treatment to achieve a maintenance control level of the following species: Coral ardisia (Ardisia crenata) and tuberous sword fern (Nephrolepis cordifolia, N. brownii).
