Renovation of a water / sewer project in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Conceptual plans call for the renovation of a water / sewer project.
The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (District) invites engineering consulting firms who have experience with Variable Frequency Drives, Switchgear and Transformers to submit sealed proposals for engineering services for the ISS Pump Station Electrical Replacements at Jones Island Water Reclamation Facility. Jones Island uses one 4.16kilovolt (kV) medium voltage switchgear, and three 13.2- 6.6kV transformers to distribute power to the three Inline Storage System (ISS) Pump Variable Frequency Drives (VFD). The ISS Pumps deliver wastewater from the ISS (deep tunnel) to JIWRF and South Shore WRF for treatment. The ISS Pumping is a critical process that must regularly be available to maintain ISS and Conveyance System capacity. One switchboard is used for smaller building loads and power panels. The switchgear, switchboard and power panels are over 30 years old. The three ISS Pump VFDs and transformers were installed in 2010. The transformers have shown signs of early degradation due to proximity to the Port of Milwaukee's salt delivery area. The District will replace one 4.16kV switchgear, three 13.2kV transformers, three ISS Pump VFDs, one 480V switchboard and transformer, ancillary power panels and building HVAC equipment. The existing power quality has been a concern in relation to the ISS VFDs past failures; power quality data from the existing ISS Pump VFDs will be evaluated. In addition, the 13.2kV transformers will be evaluated for recommendations on how to limit aging of future transformer installations. The general scope of services for this contract includes: Review of existing reference information. Meetings with representatives from the District and Veolia Water Milwaukee, LLC (Veolia Water). Engineering evaluations as outlined in the scope of services.
