This bridge is on Route 221 over Big Brook, also known as Jennings Creek. This Steel multi-beam bridge was built in 1926 and has been in continual service for 99 years. The reinforced concrete deck surface is failing in girder bay 7 and on the right fascia overhang. The wearing surface on the right side of the bridge has failed due to the failing concrete deck. A concrete Jersey barrier has been put in place to keep traffic and pedestrians away from the right side of the deck. Girders 1, 7 and 8 are heavily corroded and have section losses to the top and bottom flanges. Considering the advancing state of deterioration, this bridge is beyond maintenance type repairs or a rehabilitation project to extend its' useful service life.
