The Salida Police Department has been experiencing a larger increase in calls for service over the last several years. Due to this, staff have been added to meet the growing demands. When we moved into our current building in 2010, it was projected to be a 15-year location for the PD. With the growth of Salida and increase in call volume, we are out of space. The 2010 estimates are right on pace with our current needs. Knowing that we have tight budget constraints, we began to look for a cost-effective way to obtain a new location. Shortly after we began exploring options, a building along Hwy 50 in became available. The building formerly housed the US Forrest Service. It has 8000sqft and ample parking behind the building We toured the building and realized it was a perfect fit for the PD. The City of Salida purchased the building in 2024. We then applied for and obtained a Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) grant for $758,000 to offset the cost of the remodel. Hwy 50 in Salida, Colorado. We have completed the design on the building with our architect. The building is L shaped, and the exterior is stucco. The parking lot is mostly asphalt. The inside of the building is mostly open with only a few current interior walls. We are looking to build office space, a training room, a break room, a conference room, an interview room, an evidence room and a small lobby. We are utilizing the existing windows but will be removing a few of them in the evidence room. The exterior needs fencing installed, a little stucco work, painting, and a little landscaping.
