The Mattoon Public Library invites proposals from qualified consulting engineering/architectural firms to assist in evaluating and modernizing our historic and architecturally significant facility, which has served the community for nearly 125 years. This project represents a critical step in preserving the integrity of our building while enhancing its functionality for future generations. This includes evaluating the HVAC system, windows, and other functional improvements to support long-term sustainability and usability. The selected firm will guide the Library through a multi-phase process, beginning with a comprehensive assessment and culminating in the successful completion of targeted upgrades. We may consider application to the national historical register if that benefits us in seeking grants and favorable financing. Projects likely will require signoff from the Illinois State Historic Preservation Agency.
