Maintenance dredging of the Salem River federal navigation channel in Salem, New Jersey will restore the channel to its authorized depth of 17 feet MLLW with up to 2 feet of allowable overdepth using non-contour dredging methods, except within the turning basin, which will be dredged to 16 feet MLLW with up to 1 foot of overdepth. Work will remove approximately 150,000 cubic yards of fine-sand and silty sediment from the channel and turning basin. Beneficial use placement of dredged material will occur within designated areas of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Supawna Meadows National Wildlife Refuge in the Goose Pond area, while the turning basin material may be placed at Tilbury Island. The work requires specialized experience in beneficial use placement within sensitive marsh environments and demonstration of prior performance in environmentally sensitive coastal marshes and wetlands. Dredging is prohibited between 1 March and 30 June due to environmental restrictions. Contractors must comply with requirements for registration in SAM and PIEE prior to bid submission, and all bids must be submitted through the PIEE Solicitation Module.
