Renovation of a military facility in New London, Connecticut. Completed plans call for the renovation of a military facility.
Contractor shall provide all labor, materials, equipment, transportation, disposal, and supervision necessary to replace approximately 22 electric panels manufactured by Federal Pacific Panels while maintaining power to Smith Hall at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut. Work includes removal of the existing reinforced concrete low wall, wood cap, and terrazzo cove base between the entry lobby level and the auditorium main lobby level, as well as removal of some terrazzo flooring down to the concrete slab. The scope also involves preparation of the substrate for new terrazzo, removal of several wall-mounted light fixtures and wiring, and removal of the existing vertical lift, including all hardware, controls, operating systems, and electrical components. The contractor must protect existing building components that are to remain, such as terrazzo floors and stairs, wood wall panels, and acoustic tile ceilings. All holes in existing plaster walls and areas where the low wall was removed shall be patched and repaired with plaster and lath to match existing finishes. The project requires installation of a new curved monumental stair with curved steel stringers, straight terrazzo treads and risers, wood paneling, stainless steel posts, and a cable railing system with stainless steel handrails, wood guardrail caps, and decorative stainless steel end posts featuring brass bells and LED lighted top sections. Additional work includes providing solid surface display shelves with curved wood face panels, aluminum channel reveals, and wood bases, as well as installing a new inclined wheelchair lift system at the existing stair, complete with all hardware, mounting brackets, drive unit, operating system, controls, electrical wiring, and an integral stainless steel handrail matching the new stair handrail. The contractor shall install new electrical wiring, conduit, and circuit breakers as needed for the wheelchair lift, LED lights, and other items noted on the drawings. All plaster walls in the lobby shall be prepared and painted with two coats of interior latex paint. All work shall comply with the specifications for Project No. 27641871, associated drawings (36 sheets), and applicable wage rates. Magnitude of Construction is estimated to be between $1,000,000 and $5,000,000. Responses to pre-bid inquiries submitted by 23 December 2025 are provided as attached. *The value for this project is based on a financial range.
