This project involves the upgrade of Lightning Protection Systems (LPS) across multiple facilities at Eielson Air Force Base. The 354 CES has prioritized upgrades based on mission criticality, with initial work planned for Comm Services (B2268), Base OPS/Air Traffic Control Tower (B1215/1216), Railhead and Pad (B89006), Q-Hill MUNS Build Up (B6370), Denali Pad (B1325), and Telephone Exchange (B3110). Risk assessments conducted in accordance with NFPA 780 have informed the need for upgrades, and despite some facilities not requiring LPS by calculation, the systems are deemed essential for mission assurance. All upgrades must meet NFPA 780 and other applicable design criteria. The project must also account for extreme Arctic conditions, ensuring systems are designed to withstand freezing and thawing cycles and minimize safety risks.
