Demolition, site work, paving and new construction of a bridge / tunnel in Albion, New York. Completed plans call for the demolition of a one-story above grade bridge / tunnel.
The project includes the removal of the existing concrete culvert and replacement with a three-sided single span precast concrete span unit structure supported by micropiles (to rock) on spread footings, along with associated highway approach work and stream work. Construction will take place on the existing alignment with an off-site detour to maintain traffic. The bridge is currently closed to traffic. An alternative option allowed, at the discretion of the contractor, is the use of a prefabricated modular cast-in-place (CIP) bridge system utilizing prefabricated, lightweight panels containing concrete formwork and reinforcing steel, which are filled onsite to create a jointless superstructure. This method is designed to expedite installation, minimize labor requirements, and reduce the need for large equipment, dewatering, and temporary shoring. The prefabricated modular CIP system includes onsite installation support, shop drawings, and design documentation. The contract will be awarded based on the base bid plus the lowest of Alternative 1 and Alternative 2. Bidders must purchase plans and proposal books for $25.00 from the Town of Albion and submit sealed proposals by the indicated deadline.
