Renovation of a laboratory facility in Kent, Ohio. Completed plans call for the renovation of a 82,710-square-foot, three-story above grade laboratory facility.

This project entails the performance of the following work 1. The project will install a new fire alarm system throughout the building. Upon completion and acceptance of the new system, the existing system will be demolished. 2. All fire alarm must be installed in conduit. All devices must be new unless otherwise noted. The majority of the work will be conducted above the ceilings to install new conduit and wiring. This will require protection of the lab areas, detailed coordination, and removal and reinstallation of ceiling tiles. Upon completion and initial acceptance of the new system, transition of components from the old system can begin, including replacement of devices and tying into the new system (e.g. duct detectors and other NEX (New at Existing)) locations. A second acceptance test for the modified system will then need to occur. Finally, the old system will be removed. 3. The building has various types of labs using sensitive and high dollar equipment. Additional lab tables and fume hoods are prevalent throughout the buildings. Many of the lab tables have glassware, equipment, etc. The buildings also contain offices, restrooms, corridors and mechanical/electrical spaces. 4. Basis of design is Autocall for the new fire alarm system. Alternate manufacturers are in lieu of Autocall and bid as alternates. The work of this Project is shown on the Drawings and described in the various Sections of the Specifications.
