This is a service / maintenance or supply contract in Berkeley, California. Contact the soliciting agency for additional information.
The East Bay Regional Park District is soliciting proposals from timber operators and tree service contractors who wish to complete the following: Task #1: Merry-Go-Round Project Unit The objective of this project is to reduce the hazardous wildland fuel loading in forested areas adjacent to the Tilden Merry-Go-Round. Eucalyptus, bays, and conifer will be removed as specified below. Heavy surface fuel accumulations such as large down trees, logs, slash, and branches will also be removed. The resulting treatment area will have a retained and healthy forest canopy consisting of thinned, mature eucalyptus and native vegetation, with more significant thinning near paved surfaces. Tilden Wildland Fuels Reduction- Merry-Go-Round and Golf Course 4 East Bay Regional Park District Access to the stand is via public roadways and the Merry-Go-Round parking area, as well as trails and historic skid routes. The trails and potentially the road will need to be closed during operations for public safety, which will necessitate planning work in advance of work starting. Budgeting for trail and/or road monitors is advised. The work period is anticipated to begin in August or September and complete before December 1st, 2026. If extreme weather occurs and prevents work, the project scope and cost will be reduced. Project work will not recontinue after December 2026 due to funding conditions. Remove the following items: o Within 100' of paved road or parking area, remove all eucalyptus trees under 24" diameter at breast height (DBH) marked with blue paint. This 100' buffer area will be shown on maps, and flagged in the field as needed. Ignore blue marks on eucalyptus in the area. This material will be hauled off site unless under 4" diameter (tops). Small material can be chipped and evenly distributed, following the BMPs (See F. Assumptions, below). o In all other areas, remove all eucalyptus stems 12" DBH or less, or marked with blue paint. This material will be hauled off site unless under 4" diameter. Small material can be chipped. o Remove small bay tree stems under 7" DBH or marked with blue paint. This material will be chipped or masticated onsite. o Remove all down trees and logs marked with blue paint or under 24" in diameter. Retained down material must be cleaned of smaller diameter material. This material will be chipped or masticated onsite unless chip BMPs are surpassed. If this occurs biomass will need to be hauled offsite. Task #2: Golf Course Project Unit The objective of this project is to reduce the hazardous wildland fuel loading in forested areas adjacent to the Tilden Golf Course. All eucalyptus stems under 24" DBH will be cut and removed from the project area, as well as larger eucalyptus marked with blue paint. Heavy surface fuel accumulations such as down trees, logs, slash, and branches will also be removed. The resulting treatment area will have a retained and healthy forest canopy consisting of thinned, native vegetation with well-spaced, large, and mature eucalyptus. Brushland and grassland will be maintained with reduced fuel loads.
