Site work and paving for a mixed-use development in Ankeny, Iowa. Completed plans call for site work for a road / highway; sidewalk / parking lot; for paving for a road / highway; sidewalk / parking lot; and water / sewer project.

The project includes pavement reconstruction, pedestrian ramp improvements, and minor utility improvements along NE Chambers Parkway from 200 feet south of NE Williamsburg Drive to NE 16th Street in the City of Ankeny. The construction improvements involve truss screed and/or laser screed paving of approximately 3,900 SY of 8" thick PCC Class C-SUD street pavement and approximately 450 SY of 8" thick PCC Class C-SUD patching handwork. Other associated improvements include Class 10 excavation, subgrade preparation, special backfill, minor adjustments to existing storm sewer and sanitary sewer structures, ADA compliant sidewalk ramps, temporary surface restoration, compost amendment of existing topsoil, permanent surface restoration, temporary traffic control, mobilization, and miscellaneous associated work necessary to complete the project. Doc Note - Paper copies of the Contract Documents are available from the City of Ankeny Public Services Building, 1210 NW Prairie Ridge Drive, Ankeny, Iowa, 50023. The initial set is free of charge to prospective bidders, i.e. qualified general contractors. A fee of Fifty Dollars ($50.00) per set will apply to additional sets and to bidding documents requested by other than prospective bidders. This fee is refundable, provided the following conditions are met: (1) The Contract Documents are returned complete and in a good usable condition. (2) They are returned within fourteen (14) calendar days after the award of the project. An individual must call 515-963-3520 in advance to reserve a paper copy. Each bidder must submit bid security as defined in Iowa Code Section 26.8, as an assurance to enter into a contract and to provide a corporate surety bond for the faithful performance of the contract, in an amount equal to one hundred percent (100%) of the contract value. The bid security must be in the form of a cashier's check, certified check, certified share draft, or bid bond using the form provided in the contract documents. No conditional bids will be accepted except as provided in the specifications. The City reserves the right to defer acceptance of any bid for up to thirty (30) calendar days and no bid may be withdrawn during this period. The successful bidder must provide a corporate surety bond in the amount of 100% of the contract price, guaranteeing faithful performance, prompt payment for all material and labor, and maintenance of improvements for four (4) years after acceptance. Certificate of insurance must meet specified requirements and list the City as an additional insured. The Contractor shall substantially complete the overall project within ninety (90) working days. Substantial completion for the overall project shall be defined as all utility, grading, pavement construction, and compost amendment of existing topsoil completed with the new streets, driveways, and sidewalks fully open to traffic. A mandatory six-day work week is not required; however, working days will be charged on Saturdays if the Contractor elects to perform bid item work on Saturdays. Should the Contractor fail to substantially complete the work in this timeframe, liquidated damages of One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00) per calendar day will be assessed for work not substantially completed within the designated Contract term(s). The Contractor shall fully complete the overall project within ten (10) working days after the punch list has been provided to the Contractor following substantial completion of the overall project. Full completion for the overall project shall be defined as all work including permanent surface restoration and punch list items completed, and all improvements ready for final acceptance. Should the Contractor fail to fully complete the work in this timeframe, liquidated damages of Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) per calendar day will be assessed for work not fully completed within the designated Contract term(s). Payments will be made based on estimates approved by the Engineer, with 97% of the work completed paid during each payment period and the remaining 3% retained according to Iowa Code. The contractor will be issued a sales tax exemption certificate for all materials purchased for the project. The City reserves the right to reject any or all bids, to waive informalities, and to enter into contracts as deemed in its best interest. Preference will be given to products and labor from Iowa as per law. Resident bidder preference will match any that exists in the home state of nonresident bidders. Minority business enterprises will be assured opportunity to submit bids and will not be discriminated against based on race, color, or national origin.
