Site work and paving for a mixed-use development in Ankeny, Iowa. Completed plans call for site work for a sidewalk / parking lot; for paving for a sidewalk / parking lot; water / sewer project; and playground / park / athletic field.
Description: The Westlawn Place Area Utility Improvements - Phase 1 project includes the excavation and upsizing of the Ankeny Art Center Basin; the installation of both precast and cast-in-place dual cell and single cell reinforced concrete box (RCB) culverts; the installation of a relief storm sewer system along SW Westlawn Drive and through Westside Park; and the replacement of PCC street pavement, storm sewer, water main, and sanitary sewer along SW 4th Street from SW State Street Frontage Road to SW Westlawn Drive in the City of Ankeny. The construction improvements include approximately 40,500 CY of Class 10 excavation, 5,600 CY of Class 13 excavation, 7,200 CY of topsoil, 450 LF of dual cell 4'x10' RCB culvert, 150 LF of single cell 4'x10' RCB culvert, 1,375 SY of 8" thick double-reinforced PCC street pavement, 1,150 SY of 8" thick PCC street pavement, and 1,150 SY of 7" thick PCC street pavement. Additional construction improvements include approximately 1,275 SY of 6" thick PCC shared use path, 1,375 SY of 5" thick PCC shared use path, 900 SY of 4" thick PCC sidewalk, 30 storm sewer structures, 1,750 LF of storm sewer, 750 LF of water main, 100 LF of sanitary sewer, 900 LF of subdrain, 4,500 SY of subgrade preparation, and 4,500 SY of modified subbase. Other associated improvements include clearing and grubbing, temporary shoring, temporary water main, temporary sidewalk, temporary and permanent erosion control, temporary and permanent surface restoration, pavement markings and signs, temporary traffic control, mobilization, and miscellaneous associated work necessary to complete the project. Should the Contractor fail to fully complete Stage 0 work within this timeframe, liquidated damages of Two Thousand Dollars ($2,000.00) per calendar day will be assessed for Stage 0 work not fully completed within the designated Contract term(s). The Contractor shall fully complete Stage 1 (SW State Street Frontage Road Access) of the project within fifteen (15) working days. Full completion for Stage 1 shall be defined as all Stage 1 work including grading, surface restoration, and pavement construction completed; pavement markings and signs installed; the new street pavement fully open to traffic; all Stage 1 punch list items addressed; and all Stage 1 improvements ready for final acceptance. Should the Contractor fail to fully complete Stage 1 work within this timeframe, liquidated damages of One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00) per calendar day will be assessed for Stage 1 work not fully completed within the designated Contract term(s). The Contractor shall fully complete Stage 2 (RCB Culvert and SW 4th Street) of the project within one hundred twenty (120) working days. Full completion for Stage 2 shall be defined as all Stage 2 work including utility installation, grading, surface restoration, and pavement construction completed; pavement markings and signs installed; the new street, driveway, and sidewalk pavement fully open to traffic; all Stage 2 punch list items addressed; and all Stage 2 improvements ready for final acceptance. Should the Contractor fail to fully complete Stage 2 work within this timeframe, liquidated damages of Two Thousand Dollars ($2,000.00) per calendar day will be assessed for Stage 2 work not fully completed within the designated Contract term(s). The Contractor shall fully complete Stage 3 (Relief Sewer and Westside Park) of the project within forty (40) working days. Full completion for Stage 3 shall be defined as all Stage 3 work including utility installation, grading, surface restoration, and pavement construction completed; pavement markings and signs installed; the new street, driveway, and sidewalk pavement fully open to traffic; all Stage 3 punch list items addressed; and all Stage 3 improvements ready for final acceptance. Should the Contractor fail to fully complete Stage 3 work within this timeframe, liquidated damages of Two Thousand Dollars ($2,000.00) per calendar day will be assessed for Stage 3 work not fully completed within the designated Contract term(s). Stages 2 and 3 are not permitted to be under construction until Stage 1 is fully completed. Stages 2 and 3 are permitted to be under construction simultaneously, but not without prior approval by the Engineer. Sub-stages within and across Stages 2 and 3 are permitted to be under construction simultaneously, but not without prior approval by the Engineer. Working days will be tracked separately for each Stage. A mandatory six-day work week is not required; however, working days will be charged on Saturdays and Sundays if the Contractor elects to perform bid item work on Saturdays or Sundays for Stages 1, 2, or 3. Doc note: Paper copies of the Contract Documents are available from the City of Ankeny Public Services Building, 1210 NW Prairie Ridge Drive, Ankeny, Iowa, 50023. The initial set is free of charge to prospective bidders, i.e. qualified general contractors. A fee of Fifty Dollars ($50.00) per set will apply to additional sets and to bidding documents requested by other than prospective bidders. This fee is refundable, provided the following conditions are met: (1) The Contract Documents are returned complete and in a good usable condition. (2) They are returned within fourteen (14) calendar days after the award of the project. An individual must call 515-963-3520 in advance to reserve a paper copy.
