The Municipality is seeking to engage a qualified and experienced contractor to undertake the construction of the Abasand Pumphouse Optimization and Membrane Replacement. The Abasand Heights potable water pumphouse and reservoir is located at 288 Abasand Drive, Fort McMurray, Alberta and was originally constructed in 1976. It is the primary potable water supply to the Abasand subdivision water distribution system. The reservoir stores up to 6,800m3 of water in the buried cast in place concrete reservoir and there are four distributions pumps: 1 x 20L/s jockey pump and 3 x 70L/s duty pumps. The facility recently underwent significant upgrades that included site upgrades, pumphouse roof replacement, building metal siding replacement, process mechanical pumps and piping replacement, HVAC mechanical system replacement, backup power, PLC replacement, new instrumentation and piping and electrical system replacement. The cast in place reservoir also underwent structural integrity upgrades and the reservoir and pumphouse were returned to service in April 2022 after having been shut down for over a year while these upgrades were completed. During the latter stages of the project, there were items identified by the commissioning team as optimization that were not included in the original scope of work. Some items are operational efficiency (vault sump pump, turbidity sample pump, chlorine sample location, hardwires PLC, vault level alarm and equipment tagging), while others are for maintaining the system integrity (cathodic protection replacement and reservoir roof membrane replacement). The cathodic protection system prevents corrosion on the underground carbon steel pipping to the reservoir. During the inspection it was determined the system is no longer functioning and is due for replacement.
