The general nature of the work is complete street construction including pavement removal, excavation, subbase, 8" PCC pavement, sidewalks, and driveway pavement. The project also includes installation of 8" water main, removal of existing water main, new water services, and replacement of storm and sanitary structures, storm pipe point repairs, removal and placement of new RCP storm sewer, and miscellaneous related work and appurtenances in accordance with the contract documents. Bids must be made on the Proposal Form furnished by the City of Ames and submitted in a sealed and plainly marked envelope. Each bid must be accompanied by bid security as defined in Code of Iowa Section 26.8 and as specified in the Instructions to Bidders. The successful bidder must furnish a corporate surety bond equal to one hundred percent (100%) of its contract price, guaranteeing the faithful performance of the contract, prompt payment of material and labor, protection and indemnification of the City from claims and damages, and maintenance of the improvement for two (2) years after completion and acceptance by the City, or four (4) years for new paving. The contractor must not include sales or use taxes in the bid; tax exemption certificates will be issued for building materials. The City reserves the right to defer acceptance of any bid for up to thirty (30) days and to reject any or all bids, to waive informalities, and to enter into contracts as deemed in the City's best interest. Preference will be given to Iowa products and labor as lawfully required.
