As of April 29, 2026 project was awarded to Granite Construction, awarded amount is $8,987,200.95 Project ID: 05150000371 Project No: 097007028 Pajaro Valley High School Bridge Widening and Bike/Pedestrian Safety Enhancements This construction project consists of multiple tasks at various sites: relocation of a sanitary sewer force main to an existing casing within an existing bridge; widening of Bridge No. 36-0086 located on Harkins Slough Rd over Highway 1; and pedestrian and bike safety enhancements at various locations, including replacing curb ramps and striping. The bridge widening will create a safe space for pedestrians and bicycles, separated from vehicle traffic by a concrete barrier. Work on the Caltrans overpass involves widening the bridge by 6'-8" to accommodate a 6'-2" sidewalk and an 8'-0" bi-directional bike lane, with a concrete barrier. Pedestrian safety improvements at various school intersections include upgrading curb ramps and adding high-visibility crosswalks. Along Green Valley Rd. (between Melwood Way and Pennsylvania Drive), striping will be upgraded to add buffered bike lanes. The offsite bicycle and pedestrian improvements are intended to improve safety for students attending Pajaro Valley High School and its feeder schools. All bridge widening and sanitary sewer work falls within the Caltrans right of way and must be done under a Caltrans Encroachment Permit and oversight.
