The University seeks a qualified Architect to lead the architectural criteria and envision the design for the Small Animal Hospital (SAH), focusing on the building’s exterior envelope and main lobby. The selected firm will collaborate with the SAH Criteria Team to establish guidelines harmonizing the design with the existing UC Davis Vet Med Center’s character while meeting energy efficiency and code targets for Title 24 and LEED. Responsibilities include leading the architectural vision for selecting finish materials, colors, glazing and shading systems, and elements for a cohesive exterior appearance. The Design Architect is responsible for designing the building envelope and lobby within specific target costs and life-cycle goals. The Design Architect will be critical in selecting a Design-Build team by participating in interviews, leading design meetings, and providing feedback on proposals. Upon selection of a Design-Build team, the Design Architect will work with the Architect of Record, providing design leadership through construction to ensure the integrity of the building’s exterior and lobby aligns with design criteria, donor expectations, and cost targets. The Design Architect maintains the aesthetic vision and will present to stakeholders, integrate donor feedback, and ensure the design reflects the standards of a first-class veterinary facility. Requirements include an active State of California architect’s license for at least five years, experience on public college campuses, successful collaborations on multi-story buildings, and strong communication skills.
