A) Provide professional architectural and engineering services to deliver a complete Design-Build solution to bring the eyewash and shower combination unit into compliance with the water temperature and flow requirements of ANSI Z358.1-2014. 1. Fixture is only plumbed to cold water which does not meet the requirements of ANSI Z358.1-2014. 2. Provide design, including construction plans and specifications, to modify the plumbing infrastructure to provide the flow and temperature water to the fixture as required by ANSI Z358.1-2014. a. At a minimum, this will require demolishing the existing connections to the emergency fixture, installing a new thermostatic mixing valve (TMV) within 5' of emergency fixture, providing new hot water and cold-water connections to the TMV, and new tempered water piping from the TMV to the fixture. I. It is acceptable to use an instantaneous water heater provided that it is listed/approved for the application and there is adequate electrical capacity in the existing distribution system. B) Provide testing in accordance with ANSI Z358.1-2014 before and after the associated work is completed, witnessed by NIST staff. Testing procedure to be submitted and approved by NIST prior to any testing. C) Fixture is in an occupied space. Contractor shall minimize impacts to building occupants and infrastructure throughout the project. This includes (but is not limited to) minimizing the scope and duration of any utility and fixture outages, minimizing the footprint and duration of work areas, taking measures to ensure that things such as water and dust are contained within the work area and sensitive equipment and other infrastructure are adequately protected. Design-build construction services to evaluate, design, and correct deficiencies in emergency eyewash and safety shower fixtures to achieve full compliance with ANSI Z358.1-2014. Work includes investigation of existing emergency shower and eyewash installations, verification of deficiencies identified through prior testing and OFPM studies, development of engineered design solutions, coordination with campus stakeholders, and execution of construction activities necessary to bring fixtures into compliance. The base scope addresses Building 22, with additional option CLINs for Building 25, Building 42/Central Utility Plant, Building 1, and Building 2. Facilities include laboratories, office spaces, and maintenance areas within an active research campus environment. Recommendations provided in the SOW and supporting documents are intended as an initial starting point, and the contractor is responsible for confirming feasibility, completing additional design as required, and performing all construction necessary to ensure compliant operation of emergency fixtures, including during simultaneous shower and eyewash use.
