Sealed bids are requested for crack filling on various Village streets as determined by the Village of Whiting. For a complete description of the project and the list of streets, bidders must contact the Director of Public Works. Bids should be submitted to the Village Clerk's office. The Village of Whiting reserves the right to reject any or all bids and to award the contract in the best interest of the Village. This proposal shall consist of supplying and placement of materials, equipment, and labor needed for the application of hot pour rubberized sealant in existing transverse and longitudinal cracks and curb and gutter joints. SURFACE PREPERATION Immediately prior to applying the rubberized sealant, cracks shall be routed. All cracks and joints must be routed to a minimum of wide by deep. Cracks shall be blown out with 120 psi compressed air. The road surface must also be blown off at this time to clear it of any routed debris. The cracks shall also be blown out by use of a heat lance. ASPHALT APPLICATION All cracks shall be pressure filled by a wand applicator from the bottom up. They shall be slightly over-filled to create an over band no more than 1 wide on each side of the routed reservoir and no more than 1/8 in depth. The cracks will then have a single ply toilet paper applied to prevent material from tacking. All cracks must be sealed the same day as they are routed. No crack filling materials shall be placed during periods of rain or within twelve hours after the end of any precipitation. All cracks and joints must be free of any moisture prior to placement of crack filling materials, therefore, after periods of rain or inclement weather, all cracks and joints must be blown clean and heat lanced. Joints located between asphalt and curb and gutter are to be filled in a similar manner as pavement cracks where curb and gutter are located.
