The City of Phoenix will be resurfacing and improving 1st Street between S Rose Street and the railroad crossing near Colver Road to extend pavement life and upgrade ADA sidewalk access and crossings. Beginning March 23, construction crews will grind and repave the roadway, adjust utility structures, construct new curb ramps and sidewalk panels, and restripe lanes, bike symbols, and crosswalks along this section of 1st Street. Work is expected to last approximately six weeks, depending on weather and field conditions. During construction, lane closures, flaggers, and temporary traffic control will be in place, and access may be periodically delayed while work is occurring.Drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians are strongly encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and use alternative routes around 1st Street whenever possible to reduce congestion and enhance safety in the work zone. Local access to homes and businesses will be maintained, but short-term disruptions and construction noise should be expected during working hours.
