The City will assist with internal electrical needs, as requested. The City of Dearborn invites qualified, licensed contractors, to submit bids for the purpose of providing Electrical Upgrades for the East and West water slides at Dunworth Pool. Peter Basso Associates, Inc. (PBA} was engaged to assessrecurring operational issues with the East and West slide pump motors at the Jack Dunworth Pool. Operations staff reported that the two 15HP slide pumps cannot be started simultaneously and that one pump motor recently failed (burned up). Field observations and electrical measurements suggested that excessive voltage drop was likely the primary cause. The investigation confirmed significant voltage drop across the feeder to the pump house and across the branch circuits from the pump house to the slide pumps. The cumulative effect results in voltage levels at the slide motorsthat are below the parameters established by the National Electrical Manufacturers association (NEMA} for induction motors. The reduced voltage is exacerbated during pump starting and is what likely contributed to the motor failure. Furthermore, it was identified that the slide pump motors did not have proper overload protection, which may have prevented the catastrophic failure. It was also determined that the disconnect switches at the pumps were not properly sized. Recommended improvementsinclude: o Install buck-boost transformers to compensate for voltage drop at panel DP-PH (Pumphouse) o Upsize the branch circuit wiring to the slide pumps to compensate for additional voltage drop at the slide pumps. o Install soft starters for each slide pump motor to reduce voltage dip during starting, provide proper overload protection and extend the service life of the pumps. o Replace undersized disconnect switches at the slide pumps. - Performance Bond 100 % - Payment Bond 100 % Question Deadline 04/03/2026 at 1:00 PM ET All questions must be submitted in writing to the Purchasing contact before the Question Deadline Jay Andrews, Sr. Buyer Email: jandrews@dearborn.gov
