Demolition, site work, paving and new construction of a bridge / tunnel in Durango, Colorado. Completed plans call for the demolition of a bridge / tunnel; for the construction of a bridge / tunnel; for site work for a bridge / tunnel; and for paving for a bridge / tunnel.

1. Background: The Lightner Creek Trail is located along Lightner Creek, running on the western bench below the Twin Buttes subdivision adjacent to HWY 160 (see location map included in the attached Construction Plans). The natural surface trail, located partially on Twin Buttes Metro District property and partly on City of Durango land, is maintained by the City of Durango and open to public use for walking and biking. There are three bridges along the trail which were installed to allow for crossing of the Lightner Creek waterway. Of the three bridges, two have been previously replaced and this project will remove and replace the third. 2. Bridge: To replace the existing wood and log bridge, the Contractor will remove the existing bridge and provide and install one (1) prefabricated pedestrian trail bridge. The existing bridge is approximately 35-ft long and 6-ft wide. The new steel bridge will be 42-ft long and a minimum of 6-ft wide. To simplify and expedite the installation, and to match the other two bridges, the City desires to use a prefabricated steel bridge. Further description and specifications are included in the Project Special Provisions. The Contractor will be responsible for the complete procurement, shipping, and installation of the bridges, as well as installing and maintain traffic control during any equipment or materials deliveries to the site. The Contractor shall also need to assess and coordinate site access. 3. Bridge Foundations (Grade Beams): To support the bridges, the Contractor will need to install concrete grade beams. The Construction Plans and Project Special Provisions have further details on the grade beams. The beams can either be cast-in-place or precast and delivered and installed onsite. 4. Earthwork and Finishing: There will be need for general earthwork in preparation for the concrete grade beams and in backfilling and placing fill to tie the new bridge into to the existing natural surface trail. Each grade beam will need to be protected by an apron of rip-rap, armoring the slope and stream bank below the bridges. Reference Number 0000423677 Services to be provided by the Contractor will include but will not be limited to: procuring, furnishing and installing a prefabricated trail bridge, constructing concrete grade beams and rip-rap to support the bridges, and all associated earthwork and revegetation. The Contractor shall provide all labor, materials, equipment, tools, transportation, supplies, and oversight needed to complete the work in accordance with the contract documents.
