Site work, paving and new construction of a civil project in Somerset, Pennsylvania. Design plans call for the construction of a bridge / tunnel; and road / highway.
Plans call for the replacement of the historic, narrow, twin-tube Allegheny Tunnel built in the 1940's. The project will carve out a massive open-air cut, roughly 250 feet deep and 1,000 feet wide, through the ridge of the Allegheny Mountain to create a seven-lane alignment with dedicated truck-climbing lanes. TIMELINE: Preliminary engineering & environmental studies will run through 2029, with property acquisition planned for 2030 and construction targeted to begin 2033.
