The work involves the construction of a single-story building of approximately 14,400 square feet to serve as a Student Life and Conference Center. The project is to be completed within 365 calendar days. Bidders must submit a cashier’s check or bid bond payable to the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind in an amount not less than five percent of the bid, not to exceed $10,000. Performance and Payment Bonds and evidence of insurance are required at contract signing. A list of major sub-contractors must be provided by the low bidder within 24 hours. All bidders are required to submit an E-Verify Affidavit and Memorandum of Understanding with their sealed bid proposals. Workmen's Compensation Insurance, Public Liability Insurance, Builder’s Risk, and, if applicable, Contractor's Contingent Liability Insurance are required. Bids must be submitted on proposal forms furnished by the Architect or copies thereof. Bidders exceeding the licensing threshold must show current license number on the outside of the sealed envelope. The project is bid excluding sales taxes; contractors and the owner must apply for Certificates of Exemption, and the contractor must account for tax savings as specified. Bidders must comply with fire alarm system regulations. A bond equal to 100% of the contract price is required for both performance and payment. The owner reserves the right to accept or reject any bids and waive technicalities.
