The Commercial Street pump station is the largest pump station in the city. It takes flow from eight of the thirteen drainage areas and seven other pump stations pump directly to it. Pumps rarely turn off at this station. The last upgrade to this station was in 2002 and some of the equipment being used at this station dates back earlier than that. Due to the lack of space and lifting points, work to replace some of the leaky equipment would require contractors and possibly bypass equipment. Any emergency bypass at this station due to failure would take approximately 30 days to set up and cost over a million dollars. This is a high priority project in the Fiscal Sustainability Plan. Climate adaptation measures would also be incorporated as part of this project. The project is included in the City's 2026-2030 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). As of October 10, 2025, further details have not yet been identified.
