Site work and new construction of a fire / police facility in La Jolla, California. Design plans call for the construction of a 19,330-square-foot, two-story above grade fire / police facility.
As of March 31, 2022 this project was placed on hold. There is no current information as to when it will return. *The closed solicitation has been included below for reference: The University of California, San Diego, will be selecting an Executive Architect to perform programming, design, construction documents, bid, and construction phase services for a proposed Fire Station. The Fire Station will be constructed on campus property, as part of a partnership with the City of San Diego (City) to provide increased fire and life safety services to UC San Diego and the neighboring communities. UC San Diego has worked closely with the City and the City of San Diego Fire Rescue Department to identify an appropriate site to construct the proposed fire station. The site is on the east side of North Torrey Pines Road north of the North Point Drive campus entry. The building will have approximately 8,830 assignable square feet (ASF) and approximately 10,500 gross square foot (GSF) to accommodate fire station crew, drive-through fire apparatus vehicle bays, administrative offices, and living and support spaces. The building project will be subject to the campus/university academic and administrative approval process. The off-site scope of work will be subject to City of San Diego administrative approval process. The proposed program is for a 3-bay apparatus station, two-story structure. The facility will be designed to City of San Diego Design and Construction Standards. The fire station and the off-site improvements will be constructed by the University. At the completion of the construction, the City will occupy, staff, maintain, and operate the station to serve the community. The proposed fire station site is approximately 3/4 acre located at the northwest portion of the UC San Diegos main campus. Construction budget is estimated to be approximately $8,500,000 at CCCI 7272. Final selection and appointment is contingent upon project approval. The successful Bidder and its subcontractors will be required to follow the nondiscrimination requirements set forth in the Bidding Documents and to pay prevailing wage at the location of the work. The work described in the contract is a public work subject to section 1771 of the California Labor Code. The project delivery method is anticipated to be CM/GC (Construction Manager/General Contractor). Executive Architect will be expected to collaborate with the general contractor during the design and construction phases to meet project scope, budget, and schedule expectations. The method of contractor selection has not been determined at this time.
