Site work and new construction of a service station / car wash facility in Kingston, Ontario. Completed plans call for the construction of a 7,860-square-foot, one-story above grade service station / car wash facility; and for site work for a service station / car wash facility.
McDonald Brothers Construction of Ottawa was identified as the highest ranked proponent and an award is pending. For the construction of a new vehicle maintenance garage for the City of Kingston's Fire and Rescue department. The work will consist of constructing a new 2 or 3 bay vehicle maintenance garage facility that will feature a pre-engineered "frame-less" super-structure with enhanced building envelope and energy efficiency characteristics in order to meet net-zero ready energy performance targets associated with the City's sustainability plan. The 730 square metre (7,860 sq.ft) facility with foot print dimensions of 31.35m x 22.35m (102'-10" x 73'-4") will be located at 3 Terry Fox Drive within the site of Kingston's recently created state of the art Fire Training Centre. The requirement will call for a general contractor to retain the services of a pre-engineered building manufacturer to design and supply a building superstructure meeting the structural and architectural performance specifications outlined in the RFP documents. The contract will see the successful proponent provide design work associated with the pre-engineered structure in coordination with the City's Architect, Civil Engineer and the City Project Manager who will liaise with the client in order to deliver a building meeting client requirements. The successful proponent will then closely coordinate the building construction with the construction of foundation, mechanical and electrical works designed by the City's Consultants. Site work which may run concurrently and/or in advance of the pre-engineered structure design will see full site servicing which at the Owner's option may also include a sanitary forced main system aimed at extending sanitary services to another location on site. Additionally site landscaping, road works, and the construction of a storm water management pond will facilitate the new development and integrate it with the Fire Training Centre site plan. Work will be completed within a "brownfield" site with known contaminated soils. Intentions will be for the successful proponent in their work plan to minimize excavations and otherwise retain, relocate and repurpose soils within site property limits. The City's Real Estate and Environment Initiatives Department (REEI) will assume an oversight role and provide advice on acceptability of soils management practice and related activities during the work. Awarded contract value not released for publication.
