The City Council has identified as a top priority, a need to create a modern Public Safety Facility. Currently, 1000 Bello Street encompasses the vacant Old City Hall/Elementary School building, Police Station, and Fire Station. Sitting vacant since the late 1990s, the Old City Hall/Elementary School building will now pay homage to our history, while serving as the façade for our new fire station. The project, known as the Public Safety Facility, will accomplish multiple goals including: o Preserving the historic facade of the first elementary school o Constructing a new public safety facility (fire station) to meet the essential services act and provide living quarters in the main building o Expand and repurpose space for the police department o Develop flexible space for community use o Capitalize on the recent property acquisition of 940 Bello Street to create a joint police and fire facility. Due to the recent property acquisition, the City is seeking a solution that allows the police and fire stations to operate as one facility.
