The Career Technical Education Center, located at 7001 Zenith Court NE, was initially scheduled to open by January 2025. However, equipment delays and a shortage of labor has pushed the expected opening date to next fall, Sue Cleveland, Ph.D., Rio Rancho Public Schools superintendent, said during an April 10 event hosted by the Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW). The 74,000-square-foot campus will provide students with opportunities to personalize their high school experience based on their career interests. The school is a result of a partnership between RRPS and Central New Mexico Community College. About 600 high school and college students will be allowed to attend the school. Upon graduation, students will earn a certificate that will allow them to find employment within their respective fields. Certificates are issued by CNM. The $31 million, shared-use facility is currently being constructed by Bradbury Stamm Construction. The project is financed through general obligation bonds and capital outlay. Until the facility is built, students will attend classes at CNM, located at 900 University Blvd. SE. "[The idea] came from parents who said, we need more opportunities in this area," Cleveland said. "We are looking at how we can keep our children [in New Mexico] and how we give them an opportunity to get a job that pays well, supports the family and has a bright future." _________________ A collaboration between Rio Rancho Public Schools and Central New Mexico Community College, the new Skilled Trades Facility is a renovation project that transforms a 74,210 SF call center into a vocational high school. The structure of the original building is composed of glulam trusses on steel channel columns enclosed by tilt-up concrete walls on the exterior. The interior walls are structurally independent from the building structure, providing flexibility for future necessities. This new facility houses 5 vocational shops, 10 general classrooms, 8 specialized classrooms, as well as corresponding high school support spaces including admin space for both RRPS and CNM. Bradbury Stamm Construction has been selected as the CMAR for the Rio Rancho Public Schools Skilled Trades Facilities. We are currently accepting bids for all scopes listed in the project doc's excluding the following scopes.
