The Public Services Staff maintains 88 lift stations throughout the city. Seventy (70) lift stations are equipped with submersible pumps, while eighteen (18) lift stations still use surface mounted pumps. Surface mounted pumps have several disadvantages, including noise pollutant, vulnerability to damage caused by external forces, visual nuisance, and operational inefficiency. Once completed, the project will provide for a more efficient and environmentally friendly pump system at the city's lift stations. It is anticipated that the impact on the operating budget is zero.
