The work shall consist of furnishing all labor, equipment and materials to crush and shape the existing roadway, place two lifts of HMA over the pulverized surface, place aggregate shoulders, and maintain traffic as described in the 2020 MDOT Standard Specifications and special provisions contained herein. The Lake Somerset project begins on W. Sauk Trail at the Baker Road intersection and proceeds easterly to LeAnn Boulevard, a length of 0.69 mile. W. Sauk Trail requires to be pulverized before overlaying begins. It shall be the contractor responsibility to perform his operations in a satisfactory manner such that rutting or shoving of newly laid pavement will not occur. In no case will the contractor be allowed to run loaded asphalt trucks over new hot mix asphalt laid during the same day. Paving cannot occur until after the insurance and contract have been approved with the successful bidder. The final completion date for all work is August 10, 2024. No work shall be performed during race weekends nor MDOT recognized holidays. Liquidated damages of $500 per calendar day will be assessed for failure to complete all the work on time. The compaction of hot mix asphalt shall be accomplished using steel wheel rollers on all courses using the number of rollers method to achieve required density. There shall be one compaction roller and one finish roller on the project. The longitudinal joints on centerline shall be constructed using a vertical joint according to paragraph 2C of section 501.03F of the 2020 MDOT Standard Specifications. The contractor, prior to execution of the contract, shall file with the commission a certificate of insurance, in form satisfactory to the commission, showing that he has the following minimum amounts of insurance in force: general liability insurance with combined limits for bodily injury and property damage of $500,000 and automobile liability insurance with combined limits for bodily injury and property damage of $500,000 and workers' compensation insurance in statutory limits. The Board of County Road Commissioners shall be listed as an additional insured. The Board reserves the right to reject any item within this proposal, to reject any or all bids, to waive details in specifications, to waive irregularities in the bidding, and to accept the bids, which in their opinion, is in the best interest of the road commission.
