Scope of work includes but not limited to replacing build-up and metal roofs, vinyl siding, doors, windows, repair roof trusses, hazmat removal and associated electrical, plumbing, and mechanical work for M&R Building and Carpenters Shop. The Marine Safety Unit (MSU) houses the Vessel Traffic Center (VTC) that constantly monitors the vessel traffic in Prince Edward sound. The amount of built-up roof leaks is constantly increasing and is starting to be difficult to manage with regular maintenance. One leak caused a weeklong shut down of the galley. Another roof leak leaked down to the first floor causing a 12-foot ceiling section to collapse. This maintenance becomes a momentous task because Valdez receives over 300 inches of snow fall a year and gets 82 inches of rainfall annually. In some cases, it has become almost impossible to find the leak and all the Public Works Department can do is constantly repair the water damage. Project 12062368. The existing vinyl siding on the Carpenters shop has failed in numerous locations compromising the building envelope integrity. Additionally, all the door frames are warped making it difficult to lock and secure the building. Furthermore, all the windows are single pane windows wasting valuable energy. Finally, during the first part of December of 2023, CEU-Juneau conducted a building inspection and found five cracked trusses that need to be repaired. Project 8623188.
