(WHNT) - Alabama A&M University (AAMU), has announced a state-of-the-art science building that will significantly expand the campus' STEM Infrastructure. According to university officials, the Alabama A&M University Board of Trustees approved the construction for the science building at its last meeting. Officials told News 19 that the $82 million facility will nearly triple the university's instructional classroom and laboratory STEM capacity in the areas of biology, chemistry, and physics. According to construction plans, the new building will sit near the corner of Chase Road and Meridian Street. "Our new Science Building will be an added bonus for our students which will allow them to conduct cutting-edge experiments and pioneering research as they prepare for graduate or professional school, or to enter the workforce. This building will enhance the transformation of our campus and our Board is to be commended for their continued support to create a conducive learning environment for our students," said Daniel Wims, AAMU president. The modernized science building is expected to include advanced laboratories, collaborative research spaces, and state-of-the-art classrooms. "This new facility will significantly enhance our capacity to provide top-tier STEM education to our students," said Dean of the College of Engineering, Technology, and Physical Sciences, Dr. Zhengtao Deng. "This transformative investment will not only allow our faculty to be even more scientifically competitive, but, it confirms that our students will have access to cutting-edge laboratories and research facilities that will allow them to have a greater advantage for internships and employment," said University Distinguished Professor, Department of Biological Sciences, Dr. Jeanette Jones. The University plans to involve students in finalizing the building's features and amenities before construction begins later this year.
