This is a service / maintenance or supply contract in Fort Erie, Ontario. Contact the soliciting agency for additional information.

The Masterplan for Erie Beach aims to establish the site as an Anchor Waterfront Park with a cultural heritage focus. The Master plan may consider interpretative signage, plaques, and other features to highlight the site's environmental and cultural history. The plan will also incorporate trails, wayfinding, rest areas, waterfront access, scenic views, and nature-based play and learning opportunities. Environmental protection and flood/storm mitigation will be key priorities. Collaboration with the Town's Infrastructure team, Planning and Development Team and Environmental Planner as well as the Niagara Region is required to ensure a cohesive and sustainable design for the park. The Masterplan for Erie Beach Park (Waverly Beach) must include the following components: Indigenous Legacy Garden The Indigenous Legacy Garden will form the heart of this cultural heritage initiative, recognizing and honoring the thousands of years that Indigenous peoples, including the Neutral Nation, Anishinaabek, and Haudenosaunee nations, who have lived on and stewarded the land in Niagara. This space will specifically highlight Indigenous life in the area and their historical use of Onondaga chert, a vital resource found along the Lake Erie shoreline. For millennia, Onondaga chert was shaped into essential stone tools such as projectile points, knives, and hide scrapers. Its significance extended beyond local Indigenous communities, becoming a widely traded and utilized material. Objective: The Legacy Garden will serve as a tribute to the region's Indigenous history and a place for quiet reflection, learning, and connection with nature. It will symbolize the enduring legacy of Indigenous peoples and their relationship with the land, particularly their resourcefulness, and craftsmanship through their use of Onondaga chert. Key Considerations: o Integration with the park's character: Ensure that the design complements the park's existing features. o Acknowledgement and Reflection: The design should recognize the longstanding inhabitation of the area by Indigenous peoples while also promoting a sense of calm and peace. o Engagement and accessibility: It should be easy for visitors to interact with. o Educational and sensory learning: Provide opportunities to learn about Indigenous history and engage all the senses. o Interpretive signage and art installations: Install educational plaques, and subtle art features, and connect the design to water, birds, fish, plants, trees and natural features. o Low maintenance: Ensure the design requires minimal upkeep while remaining impactful. The Consultant must work with the pre-established Indigenous group when developing the plan for the Legacy Site. Interested parties are encouraged to review appendix D of the solicitation document for complete details.
