Site work and new construction of a mixed-use development in Merritt, British Columbia. Completed plans call for site work for a day care center; for the construction of a 8,300-square-foot, two-story above grade day care center; 12,000-square-foot, two-story above grade educational facility; and educational facility.
This Request for Qualifications (RFQ) is part of the solicitation process for the general contractor to construct the new Student Housing and Daycare buildings at Nicola Valley Institute of Technology. The project comprises two buildings, site development and landscaping at NVIT’s main campus in Merritt, BC. The daycare building, which will be described in more detail below, is approximately 8,300Sq.ft. and the student housing is approximately 12,000Sq.ft. Both buildings will be two-storey structures. The housing building comprises twelve townhouses and will be mainly traditional residential construction. The daycare building will include regular classrooms and will have some mass timber components, including a Nail Laminated Timber (NLT) suspended second floor and glulam beams. The design has been completed and the building lots, which include all civil services, will be completed by the time construction resumes. With regards to the construction schedule, the Owner is hoping to have the buildings completed, furnished and operating by the start of school in September 2026.
