Due to the challenges of urbanization and water resource uncertainty, pond aeration is being proposed for two of the City of Arvada owned lakes in a data driven effort to battle eutrophication. These City owned lakes are mainly fed by precipitation runoff from storm events that occur throughout the associated watershed. As these events become more various and undependable, the water within the lakes becomes warmer in the spring and summer seasons, causing algae blooms that can be toxic to public health and deplete the oxygen in the water leading to fish kills. In the past few years, there have been increasing public complaints related to algae blooms within city-owned lakes. Pond aeration systems provide five specific benefits including reducing pond muck, improving water quality, increasing dissolved oxygen levels, eliminating the thermocline within the lake (temperature layers that dictate drastically different oxygen levels), and reducing the risk of fish kills. The main objective for the City is to install two Solar Aeration systems for our top two prioritized lakes, including Broad Lake and Pomona Lake (i.e. Meadowglen Park). The lake footprint for Broad Lake (system(s) 1) is approximately 7.1 acres (309,276 square feet) and holds approximately 26.2-acre feet (8,543,812 gallons) of water. The lake footprint for Pomona Lake (system(s) 2) is approximately 12 acres (522,720 square feet) and holds approximately 114-acre feet (37,150,000 gallons) of water. 1. Design of the aeration system to include shop and construction drawings. 2. Drawings for proper installation of the solar panel mounting masts, involving auguring a hole of appropriate dimension and setting mast in hole with concrete. 3. Procurement of all applicable licenses, permits, and fees as required by local codes and utilities. 4. Coordination of Utility Locates (if warranted) 5. Installation of compressors, electrical controls, piping, valves, aeration feeder/distribution tubing, aeration modules, and appurtenances necessary for the complete operation of the solar aeration system. 6. Start-up, testing, adjustment of aeration system, and training of maintenance staff. 7. Maintenance period
