Site work and paving for a mixed-use development in Wrangell, Alaska. Conceptual plans call for site work for a sidewalk / parking lot; and for paving for a sidewalk / parking lot.

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is proposing to make improvements to the Wrangell Ferry Terminal. The proposed project would: o Complete replacement of the sidewalk, curb, and gutter within the facility property o Reconstruction of existing curb ramps to current standards and construction of new ramps to improve pedestrian access o Replacement of one existing catch basin and culvert with a slope drain o Reconstruction of all other existing drainage inlets, catch basins, and culverts o Repave portions of the existing parking lot to restore adequate drainage and to eliminate pedestrian safety hazards o Replacement of vehicle guard rail The project may be partially located in the coastal flood zone (V5). Any encroachments are anticipated to be minor, with no net changes to the base flood elevation, thus they would not result in significant encroachments. Additionally, no longitudinal encroachments are anticipated. The project is anticipated to occur as early as summer 2026. Development of this proposed project would follow a process required by the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Based on project location and scope of work, the environmental document is anticipated to be a Categorical Exclusion. Possible affected resources include wetlands, waters of the U.S., eagles, endangered species, marine mammals, essential fish habitat, and cultural or historic properties.
